How to Make a Shaker Gift Tag

by Robin

Shaker cards and are so much fun to make, and even more, fun to give. so today, I wanted to try something different by showing you how to make a shaker gift tag, instead of a greeting card. The secret to any shaker is to make sure that your mixture has enough room to move in your window, while still being kept secure so that nothing escapes. Keep reading to or watch the video below, to find out how I made this shaker gift tag, and what materials I used during the process.

Love Shaker Gift Tag Tutorial:

Step 1.

When making this gift tag, I used my Cricut machine to start the process. I don’t actually have any gift tag dies that I can use to make a shaker card so instead, I trimmed the three main pieces of this gift tag and wrote the “to” and “from” sentiments using my Cricut machine. I’ve listed the images that I used to make this tag above. Once I had the shapes cut out, I stuck the patterned heart cardstock to the Neenah Solar White paper using Scrapbook Adhesives mounting squares to create the back of the card and the inside pattern of the shaker side.

Step 2.

After that, I took a piece of Grafix acetate and positioned it inside the window of the pink cardstock using Scor-Pal Scor-Tape. This made the front of my shaker card.

Once the window was on the pink cardstock I could move to the next step and add some Craft Specialties double-sided foam tape around the edges of my window to create a space for the shaker pieces to move around. I did have to layer three pieces of foam tape on top of each other because the items in this particular shaker card were relatively large and taller than your standard sequin shakers.

Step 3.

Next, I used an EK Tools powder tool to remove any static cling that might be on the acetate. This is also really handy to remove any sticky residue from the foam tape so that the sequin doesn’t stick to the sides of the tag. Once I was finished with the powder tool I added my sequin, button, gem, and pearl mixture to the inside of the shaker. As I mentioned before, these items were relatively tall so I had to make sure that I put them in upside down before I flipped my shaker tag over. They were too tall to turn over on their own once the window was closed. I put the back of the tag over-top of the shaker last to seal the items in.

Step 4.

Now that I had my base all put together I wanted to add some additional embellishments. I added a banner inked using hickory smoke Distress Oxide Ink, along with a love stamp in Ranger Ink jet black. I thought it was super fun and a perfect touch for this gift tag. I also added some rhinestones for a little extra pizzazz, and some ribbon to tie this tag to a beautiful gift.
